PLBs and Class Book

It was a very exciting day in Room 6 as our Personal Learning Blogs (PLBs) are now open to the public! You can find them on the Personal Learning Blog tab at the top of this blog. Please check out our PLBs and leave a comment or two to let us know what you think! If the link to your blog isn't working it is either because you haven't changed the viewing settings to 'anyone' or you haven't emailed me your blog's web address.

Also, we just finished reading Boy by Roald Dahl. It was a super read.....but now we need a new book! We'd love to hear your suggestions for what should be our next class book. Leave a comment below to let us know your recommendations. :)

Room 6 rocket

For homework the senior syndicate had to make a rocket.

Gloria had a huge rocket. She
even got interviewed by reddy's news.Gloria said it was fun, and sort of hard to make. We had about one month to make it. We shared it on Friday morning after morning tea. Some rockets were made out of Lego and some were made out of Cardboard.Jasper's rocket was made out of polystyrene and a cone on top. Olivia's rocket was paper mache. Millie's rocket was a tin bin and believe it or not, some were made out of coke bottles. Georgia said the rockets were really cool .

Why is there life on Earth but not on any other planet?

Here are some facts about life on Earth that we have discovered today!

-Water contains oxygen which we need for life
-Trees make oxygen
-Earth has just the right temperature for life- thanks to our atmosphere!
-Gravity keeps our atmosphere in place
-The sun's gravity keeps us in orbit and we are a perfect distance away from it.
-Light helps us live by allowing plants to grow to give us food and oxygen.
-Mars and Mercury are too small to keep an atmosphere.
-Most creatures on Earth need oxygen.
-Plants need carbon dioxide.
-We need water to survive because our bodies need it. Plants need it too. It is the most important thing for life!
-There is only a small amount of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere.
-The atmosphere is like a big blanket of insulation
-If we can find water on Mars the possibility of life existing there would be better.
-Without energy virtually nothing would happen.

Do you have any other facts or information that we could add to our list?
Tomorrow we'll be writing an explanation about why there is life here on Earth but not on any other planets.

Two Millie's???

On the 5th of June 2013, a turtle named Millie came in to spend some time with Room 6. Everybody was delighted to see a real life turtle!!!!! We soon found out that the turtle was Gloria's and it was 13 years old. In the morning, Gloria explained everything about Millie. We all had a go touching her and she walked around. Her shell felt so soft and hard, all at the same time. Gloria also told us that Millie had a good friend named Lilly, and she told us that Lilly was hers too. Millie stayed in a big plastic container and at morning tea she went for a walk to get fresh air. It was really fun looking at her and at lunch Gloria's mum cAme to pick Millie up. It was a really fun day.
